"WOW! If you like books with mystery, magic and evil forces you've got to read Toby's Crystal. Toby is a pre-teen who has inherited psychic powers and whose life changes when he discovers a healing crystal at a New Age fair. The story gets exciting when a demonic creature known as The Dark sets out to destroy Toby. On his journey, Toby encounters ghosts, wizards, an unsmiling magician and a crystal mine owner. The book is really interesting and the website is pretty cool too."

‘With the Harrison Ford movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull doing good business at the box office, and the screening on television of the documentary Legend of the Crystal Skulls, the recent publication of author Janet Morgan’s Toby’s Crystal could not have been more timely.

An adventure story, “a crystal journey into the cosmos”, tells of all that happens to 11-year-old Toby Brightman, a youngster with extra-sensory powers, who is given a crystal at a New Age ‘Mind,Body,Spirit’ Fair, and finds himself struggling against a demon called The Dark, a slimy pulsating metamorphic monster and its master, who are not only determined to destroy him, but also Planet Earth itself. It is a gripping yarn, and from the first meeting of its hero, Toby, with the wizard Grimspeake – “I should tell you now that I don’t smile, I have never learned to, and probably I never will” – to his capture by the reptilian angel, a monstrous creature, who, although its “four great webbed wings are twisted and deformed can still beat a relentless path through the galaxies”, it is a fast, furious and fascinating read.

A book with appeal for, and likely to thrill, readers of all ages, a splendidly moving tribute to its author’s late grandson, ‘Toby’s Crystal’ is available from all good books shops.
